This past week I was down in Mexicali, Mexico with Evergreen’s high school youth group. For those of you who don’t know where Mexicali is, it’s just south of California’s border.
Fun fact - Mexicali is a name made up of Mexico and California while Calexico is a name made up of California and Mexico. Calexico is in California and Mexicali is in Mexico. I’m sure you all knew that!
I really wasn’t planning on running throughout the week but come Monday I was already getting restless and had to get my legs moving. Jason F. hadn’t been sleeping well so he was also up for running.
Woke up at 6:00 AM and was excited to get on my Lunas Sandals and get moving. We ran a quick 3 miles. The terrain was all uneven dirt, which I’ve never subjected my legs to before. The 3 miles felt great but took a toll on my left Achilles tendon. A few hours later I was getting sharp pains in my Achilles and had to take it easy for the rest of the day. I have to keep reminding myself to ‘take it slow’ or else my body will.
I made sure to take it easy and baby it real good for the rest of Monday and all of Tuesday. Come Wednesday I wanted to get out and run again. Ran an easy mile with Josie L. and Matt C. Felt great! My legs felt strong and I felt great.
Due to the lack of showers and abundance of dirt and dust – I took some wet wipe “showers” which worked pretty well. I think I will start doing that for my lunch runs back home.
With every mile I put on my Lunas, I look forward to the next. They just keep getting better and better with every mile. Love my Lunas. Keep on running ya’ll.
